ŌPUA, a reef-safe sunscreen kit, provides guests at Four Seasons Resort with a sun protective layer for their stay in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i. Since it takes time, energy, and resources to conduct the proper amount of research necessary to acquire reef-safe sunscreen, Four Seasons is taking the next step in ensuring guests are provided with the proper sun protection during their stay.



Layers of Design

 The Kit celebrates the unique landscape of the island, serving as a reminder for guests to maintain the environment.  Using the language of layers, adding a layer of UV protection, topographic layers of the island, and the layer of fog that sits on top of the mountains all serve as the visual and construction inspiration.





A Breath of Fresh Air

 With only minor changes to the original Four Seasons visual identity through selecting more curated typefaces and using a landscape specific color palette, this kit aimed to remain within the boundaries of the current Four Seasons’ identity.



Construction/Materials

As a large portion of the kit is aimed at educating and fostering sustainability, the materials selected for the kit are only recyclable and resourcefully printed. Using FSC-certified recycled paper, E-Flute corrugated board, and seaweed-based plastic, ŌPUA is fully recyclable and environmentally friendly.

Exploring beyond the luxurious rooms of Four Seasons onto the black sand shores and luscious gorges of Hawai’i. The products discovered in the kit go beyond the comfort of your room.
